- Sensibility: Given the extreme nature of the story and film overall, things proceed surprisingly sensibly. A clothing choice near the end is odd, and some of the character development may be difficult to accept for some viewers.
- Cinematography: The highlight of this film is it's editing. Brilliantly cut shots and scenes create tension and ease it at just the right moments to create the drama.
The flashback imagery, the production design, and costuming are all brilliant and define the characters in a tangible way. There are a few particularly excellent moments where the interlacing of
flashback footage and contrasting real-time actions put us inside the characters' minds and help us visualize their thoughts without disrupting the flow.
- Energy: Propelled by brilliant editing and acting from the whole cast, the short and efficient run-time flies by without interruption.
- Narrative: A brilliant and rare combination of drama, romance, and thriller with incredibly strong, thought-provoking writing. It addresses a wide range of issues through a sometimes serious, sometimes comedic, and sometimes satiric lense all with
intelligence and intention. In many ways, this film is a litmus test for how empathetic and accepting you are.
- T-Points: The film received four bonus points: one for a dinner scene revealing everyone's worst decisions, one for a series of shots of teenage Emma and the editing around
the flashback work as a whole, one for a "shooting" scene with a photographer, and one for the nuance of the overall character arcs for Emma and Charlie.
This film is a conversation piece. Brilliant editing stacked on brilliant imagery stacked on brilliant character writing. The real Drama is the conversation you have with
your friends and partner after seeing this together.
