- S: Some strange decision making by the main characters give pause. Particularly the decision making to not go out and save some people only to go out later to steal their supplies.
In addition, why the infected attacker lets Eva live, and why Eva hides under a table. The ending reveal is also strange, as it makes some of the events of the draugr in hindsight seem
ridiculous or impossible.
- C: The highlight of this film is the beauty of the landscape and shot choices. The framing does a great job of drawing your eyes to the dark corners of the rooms even when there is nothing
there. Costuming is also quite good. Only negative is that I think the sound design on the draugr is a bit extreme, particularly the wet sounds and there is some over-repetition of shots.
- E: Great watch with some good scares. It only lulls a bit in the back-and-forth in the hunt to find the draugr during the day.
- N: The concept is simple, elegant, and well executed. However, the brief love affair adds nothing of value to the story and the ending reveal about the draugr is a let-down. The story
was already very interesting with the draugr being a real curse/corpse, and the films attempt to contextualize it in the reality of the film diminishes its impact. This explanation weakens
the film in hindsight, as it makes the viewer attempt
to collate the real draugr with its supernatural acts throughout the film.
- T: The film received two bonus points: an excellent shot of a man falling off a cliff through the fog and an incredible shot of wrapped corpses in a line.
Beautiful film that gets lost trying to explain itself. However, great start to horror-thriller films in 2025. Let's hope this film is a sign that this year will have as many
good films as last year.
