- S: Like most Alien films, this one struggles to maintain the reality it has constructed. Of primary note is the miraculous strength of the main character post surgery and continued injury, some people getting
lost while navigating their way back to a ship, and a very willing sacrifice by some pilots.
- C: So much of this film is well shot. Great and noticeable lighting choices throughout. Only negatives are that some of the costumes feel a bit ridiculous, especially relative to the rest of the Alien films and even real space-suits, and some of the
engineer technology looks cheap and derivative of human design.
- E: David's mischeviousness is the driving force of this film. Only negative is that there is a bit of a lull right after a climactic surgical operation which arguably is the highlight of the whole film.
- N: David is such a strong and interesting character that it makes this film great. The Lawrence of Arabia references and the insight into the creator-created relationship are excellent.
- T: The film received two bonus points: one for a brutal abortion scene and one for David's interests and meticulousness with his hair and with his research.
I think this film is one of the best of the Alien franchise. I think the reason why it's so controversial is that it's not really an Alien movie, but it provides such great insight into the
origins of the Xenomorph and contextualizes the universe so well that it's worth the lack of Xenomorph mayhem traditional to the other films of the franchise.
